January is Learn a SnowSport Month

January, 2010, is Learn a Snow Sport Month.

In 2009, 200 resorts in 22 states participated, attracting more than 20,000 newcomers. More are expected this season.

Resorts are offering learning programs for new consumers who want to learn a sport, and for current snowsports enthusiasts who want to pick up additional skills.

Programs are open to children and adults to learn
  • alpine skiing
  • snowboarding
  • cross country skiing
  • and snowshoeing.
Some learning programs are free while some require a reasonable fee.

Waterville Valley Annual New England Women's XC Ski Day           
 

The Waterville Valley Nordic Center at New Hampshire's Waterville Valley Resort will host the 9th annual New England Women's XC Ski Day Sunday, January 31, 2010.

Inspired by similar events in Norway and Alaska, this day-long, "for women, by women" event offers Nordic ski clinics for every level of skier from first-timers to seasoned masters led by some of the country's best women ski coaches. Also included will be waxing demonstrations, top of the line ski equipment and clothing demos, and lunch with some words from Olympic athlete Joan Benoit-Samuelson. The day wraps up with a short, fun 1-km relay with prizes for the top two teams in five categories: mother/daughter, sister/sister, relative/relative, friend/friend, oldies/oldies.

Air France-KLM Announce New Baggage Fee Policy

Effective with tickets issued November 1, 2009, Air France and KLM will introduce a revised baggage policy for customers traveling in Economy Class between the US and Europe including Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.

Passengers may check one bag, weighing up to 50 pounds (23 kilos), free of charge. If passengers check a second bag, with the same maximum weight allowance, the fee is $50 for all flights departing from the US or 50 Euros for all flights departing from Europe.

Additionally, the fee for checked bags weighing between 50 and 70 pounds (23 to 32 kilos) will increase from 50 dollars or Euros to 100 dollars or Euros. Beyond the second checked bag, additional bags of the same maximum weight and size will be charged 200 dollars or Euros.

The following customers continue to receive a baggage allowance of 2 pieces of checked baggage up to 50 pounds each in Economy Class free of charge:
  • Flying Blue Platinum, Gold and Silver members
  • SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus Frequent Flyer members
  • Passengers traveling on special Seaman’s fares.
The following customers benefit from a baggage allowance of 2 pieces of checked luggage up to 70 pounds each free of charge:
  • Club 2000 and Skipper members
  • Passengers booked in Air France’s new Premium Voyageur Class.
The baggage allowance rules have not changed for those passengers flying in First or Business Class.

Hartford's Bradley International Airport Nonstop Service To Denver

Spring skiers and snowboarders, business travelers and vacationers to the West will be able to fly nonstop from Hartford, CT to Denver on Southwest Airlines starting March 14. Introductory fare: $79.

One flight per day Sunday through Friday will depart Bradley at 8:10 a.m., arriving in Denver at 10:30 a.m. This morning arrival will allow passengers to connect with Southwest cities throughout the western U.S.  The return flight leaves Denver at 3:45 p.m., arriving at Bradley at 9:30 p.m.

One Saturday flight will leave Bradley at 9:05 a.m., arriving at 11:25 a.m. A return Saturday flight will leave Denver at 11:20 a.m., arriving at 5:05 p.m. at Bradley.
